Two 黑料老司机students named C-USA Scholar Athletes of the Year

黑料老司机swimmer Denisa Smolenova and soccer standout Adam Still have been named recipients of the 2011-12 Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards.

IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - 黑料老司机swimmer Denisa Smolenova and soccer standout Adam Still have been named recipients of the 2011-12 Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards, C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced July 19.

The C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport. The award is based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service.

Smolenova, who is preparing to represent Slovakia in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, was an All-American in 2011-12 and helped the Mustangs finish 16th in the nation. She is an eight-time C-USA champion and set the league record in the 200-yard butterfly. She graduated with a 3.768 GPA and was a three-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Medal.

Still, a native of Colleyville, graduated with a 3.867 GPA in accounting. Still was an Academic All-American in 2012 and was a finalist for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. He was a three-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's honor roll. The Mustang team captain led the team to the 2011 Conference USA Tournament title and a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The award winners are determined by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
