Burke Jam is an artist working in sound, performance and experiential design. Current research includes design thinking, aesthetic computation, generative systems and neuroevolution. Jam’s research focuses on human and environmental relationships and the proposed Anthropocene. Jam completed an M.F.A. at the University of Montana and was awarded a Fulbright grant to Iceland in 2013/2014 researching acoustic-ecology and expanded field-recording techniques. He has curated performances and symposia organizations including the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art and Portland Art Museum. Jam is the creative director of the 艂uminous.drift publishing imprint for sonic art and sound ecologies.
Jam has held positions at Portland State University as an Instructor of Art, Instructor of Music, Director of the School of Music Laptop Ensemble – S.A.M.P.L.E, and Director of Digital Facilities, Office of the Dean, College of the Arts. Previously Jam worked as a Forestry Technician – Smokejumper for the United States Forest Service.
His work has been published via Kesh Recordings (Cambridge), Dragon’s Eye Recordings (Los Angeles) and Room 40 (Brisbane).
